Taking flight at BidAir Cargo
In the world of aviation, dreams often take flight long before individuals touch the controls of an aircraft. However, the path to becoming a pilot is often blocked by two significant challenges: the steep cost of obtaining a licence and limited exposure to the industry.
BidAir Cargo is changing that narrative with a new initiative, one that promises to open doors for aspiring aviators.
Traditionally, study bursaries at BidAir Cargo have focused on supply chain management and commerce, but these now also include opportunities in aviation. The bursary programme is a reflection of BidAir Cargo's commitment to nurturing talent, fostering diversity, and creating opportunities within the sector.
BidAir Cargo CEO, Deen Gielink knows firsthand the power of such opportunities as he started his career as part of a pilot bursary scheme, and this is what he had to say, "The bursary changed my life. It has introduced me to the thrill of aviation, exposed me to different cultures and allowed me to see the world in ways I had only dreamt of. It built my resilience and gave me the tools that have shaped my entire career. I am incredibly proud that BidAir Cargo is now in a position to offer this life-changing opportunity to others, helping them soar towards their own dreams."
This year, BidAir welcomed Jordan Abrahams and Busisiwe Maaga as the first candidates selected for its pilot bursary scheme. The selection process was not easy - candidates underwent rigorous evaluations, including interviews that tested their knowledge of aviation, their decision-making skills, and their mental fortitude. Jordan and Busisiwe shone through as outstanding individuals with the potential to become future leaders in aviation.
Through this new sponsorship, BidAir Cargo is investing in the future of aviation by empowering young, talented pilots. In addition, the sponsorship will strengthen the industry, enrich its diversity and contribute to its future growth. Jordan and Busisiwe represent that bright future and BidAir Cargo is confident that they will rise to the challenge whilst exceeding every expectation.
This is not a milestone for BidAir Cargo—it is a call to action, a vision of what is possible when barriers are removed and a reminder that with the right support, the sky is not the limit—it is only the beginning.
