Compendium helps establish a library for homeless children

Compendium Insurance Brokers supports Ingane Yami, a children's village located in the Shongweni Valley just outside Durban, in the province of KwaZulu-Natal. Compendium proudly sponsored the construction of the village's first house, over 10 years ago, and has continued its journey with the children's village ever since. The company's ongoing involvement with Ingane Yami underscores its commitment to supporting the well-being of vulnerable children.

This village now has five homes, each housing six children and a foster mother. The team at the village includes social workers, an on-site village pastor, qualified teachers and a committed support team. Before these children are taken into the village, adoption processes are followed, in consultation with child welfare organisations.

In 2023, in honour of Human Right's Day, Compendium staff visited the village's pre-school to help establish a library. The Compendium staff spent a day at the school arranging and categorising the books already donated and made a monetary contribution to the library, to buy new books as well. A mini ribbon-cutting was held to officially launch the library.

Commenting on the partnership, Kayleigh Forder, Head Marketing at Compendium, said: "Through this library, and as an organisation that cares about education, we believe we are opening doors for these learners and helping to build opportunities for a reading nation. At Compendium, we are about reshaping lives and fostering brighter futures for our children."

Each July, Compendium participates in the village’s Mandela Day initiatives and soccer day tournaments, during which sponsors and corporates collaborate to raise funds for the village.
